Positioning and the Most Overlooked Opportunity Chris Conner

Positioning often seems difficult to me. So I love to talk to people about it. Hamish Mackenzie joined me to lay out the strategy for identifying open positions in any business. One seemingly obvious choice is often overlooked.

Brilliant execution is one of the best differentiators you can have. And it’s surprisingly rare.

Maybe that’s because being really good at what you do doesn’t sound sexy or because everyone makes that claim. But if companies aren’t delivering on the promise the one who does will stand out.

That wasn’t the entirety of the conversation. There are many ways to go about identifying a solid market position. The one I am most familiar with puts the most important attributes on a two-axis grid. Then you decide if there is an opening where you think you belong.

In any case, where you land has to be true. But your attributes don’t have to be similar to anyone else’s. That’s the fun part.
